Dr. Mary Ann Gawelek is not only a donor and volunteer but also an advocate, demonstrating the meaning of LIVE UNITED.

"I advocate for community improvement everyday by supporting United Way's efforts to research the condition of women in the region, and by encouraging women to get directly involved in their community by serving on profit and not-for-profit boards.

A New Year

As the New Year begins and resolutions are made; please consider giving the gift of service by becoming a volunteer.  Alle-Kiski Faith in Action can connect you with a senior neighbor in need.  Volunteer opportunities include providing transportation, telephone calls, and supportive home visits.  Volunteers are also needed to assist us in creating a safer environment in the homes of older adults in our community by providing home safety checks.  Trainings are scheduled regularly; for more information on how you can volunteer to provide this meaningful service please call 724-224-3199.

Alle Kiski FIA hits new milestones for service in the community
As the first site established by the United Way of Westmoreland County,  Alle Kiski Faith in Action has grown to service scores of clients and built a solid network of volunteers that provide caregiver relief, trips to the hospital or just regular support through out the year.  Thanks to the efforts of the steering committee, this program now serves  over 100 recipients with a team of 50 volunteers.  Our recipients are very grateful as one recent recipient says "Faith in Action is MY family."  As always, Alle-Kiski Faith in Action is always looking for new volunteers, recipients of service and community partners.  Joanne Retter, program director of AKFIA, says, "Our growth and success depends on the genuine concern for one's neighbor and the great people that live and work in Lower and Upper Burrell."
