“ABB Inc. Leads and Lives United by Supporting Scouting for Food”

Mt. Pleasant, PA (April 22, 2010)  At this time of year, when ABB’s Sherry Stahl, Administrative Assistant to Marketing and Engineering, and Teresa Walker, Supply Chain Manager, get together, they are talking about how much food and support they can generate for the annual Scouting for Food Drive. In previous years, between 400 and 500 lbs. of non-perishable food has been collected from employees at the Mt. Pleasant facility.  This year, ABB is helping to grow the drive by matching one dollar per pound collected.
For over 20 years, ABB Inc. has been a strong supporter of Scouting for Food since its inception. ABB’s Senior Vice President and General Manager, Chris Reinbold says, "Especially in today's economic conditions, we see this food drive as critical to the stability of our community and an opportunity for our employees to demonstrate their support and care for those in need. We are encouraged that our national ABB Foundation is able to provide matching support to leverage our local efforts.”

This year, the Boy Scouts of America is celebrating its 100th anniversary and our local Westmoreland Fayette Council has set an ambitious goal of 100,000 lbs.  Scouting for Food mobilizes boy scouts and their families, along with community partners, (Fayette County Community Action Agency, Greater Pittsburgh Council - Boy Scouts of America, Nationwide Insurance, Menasha Corporation, Westmoreland County Food Bank, Westmoreland Fayette Council - Boy Scouts of America, United Way of Westmoreland County, United Way of South Fayette, and UPS) to help feed those in need in Fayette and Westmoreland Counties.

To help expand this year’s collection at ABB, Teresa and Sherry are seeking matching donations from local merchants.  Their hope is to double or even triple ABB’s contribution to this drive.  When asked why they work so hard at this, Teresa says, “We are blessed in so many ways and as a recipient of food and other support services in the past, I know how important this work is for the community.”

This Saturday morning, April 24, scouts will come to homes that received a door hangar to collect donated food.  Individuals who did not receive a hangar and wish to contribute can do so by dropping their canned or dry foods to any Nationwide Insurance agency through the end of April.  Companies that wish to participate through the month of April can contact Jack Waite at 724.837.1630 or go to www.unitedway4u.org and click on the Scouting for Food banner to obtain a registration form or to find your local Nationwide Insurance agency.

Reflecting ABB's true commitment to our community, Senior Vice President Reinbold is now serving as United Way’s 2010 Campaign Chair and invites “all partner companies in our area to join us in celebrating the 100th anniversary of Scouting by helping us reach the goal of 100,000 lbs. of food for our communities.”
