Jim Stitt has been a donor to United Way of Westmoreland County for over 25 years. Read below about how he demonstrates the meaning of LIVE UNITED.

"I believe that as a resident of a community, you have a responsibility to provide solutions in any way you can to that community. That's why I have donated to United Way for so long. United Way puts my money into the programs that Westmoreland County needs the most.

I LIVE UNITED through contributions to my United Way."

A Diamond Donor is someone who has donated to a United Way organization continuously for 20 years or more. These individuals exhibit extraordinary dedication to making a difference in our communities. This strong base of supporters has enabled us to grow over the past century, building programs that help families and individuals empower themselves to create better lives.

On Friday, April 24, friends and supporters of United Way gathered for a breakfast to learn about the growing challenges of working families in our community.  Craig Morrow, President and CEO of Powerex, is serving as  Co-Captain along with Stan Hunt, retired CEO of Powerex.  Craig highlighted the economic conditions that are affecting our area, along with the importance of how we need to mobilize the community and safeguard those who are not able to cope or have fallen on hard times due to layoffs and other financial challenges.  Nancy Kukovich interviewed a client of the Welcome Home Shelter in Greensburg who was helped and supported by a United Way funded program and has maintained her stability five years after leaving the shelter.

TEAM UNITED! is charged to connect the United Way with a new set of corporate partners and community investors to help close the gap of growing need and dwindling resources.  Attendees will be connecting with area businesses and individuals over the next month with a goal of calling 100 new enterprises and generating 50 meetings.

Nancy Kukovich says this is a long-term strategy to build a stronger base of support to help the growing roles of families who need service due to current and future challenges in the economy.  Craig thanked all who attended and those who could not attend, but will be participating.  Next breakfast is scheduled for June 19th.   The breakfast closed with a Live United cheer from the Jeannette Jayhawk Cheerleaders..... Go Team United!
